Why StatCaddy exists

Most golfers know their score. Very few know why they shoot it. And almost no coach can see what happens in the three weeks between lessons.

Those two gaps are the same gap, and StatCaddy exists to close it.

The thing we're actually building

It would be easy to describe StatCaddy as a stats app with some AI attached. Plenty of those exist, and honestly, they're all much of a muchness — anyone can pipe a set of golf numbers into a language model and get a tidy debrief back. We're not pretending that part is special.

What isn't easy to copy is your own coach. The person who knows your swing, who you'll actually listen to, who you'll book another lesson with. What that coach has never had is a way to see your game between the hours you spend together — so their attention has to be rationed, and the students who need them most are often the ones who quietly disappear.

So the goal isn't better analytics. It's this: make an ordinary local coach extraordinary to every student they have, profitably. One coach, genuinely attentive to thirty golfers, because the data gets read for them and they decide what to do about it.

What that means in practice

Everything follows from two constraints we take seriously.

A round has to be effortless to log. Every stat, every trend, every insight and every alert is worth exactly nothing if players don't record their golf. That's the whole ballgame, and it's why you can log a round three different ways, why a score on its own is a valid round, and why you can photograph a card marked in your own shorthand rather than learning ours.

A coach has to make money from it. Not in a grubby way — in the sense that a coach who can show a student their game measurably improved is a coach who gets booked again. Lesson notes carry the stat they were about, before and after. The evidence writes itself.

If a feature does neither of those things, we generally don't build it. That's why there are no streaks, no points, no badges, and no community feed. It's a premium tool for people who take their golf seriously, and it tries to behave like one.

Built with a working coach

StatCaddy isn't designed in a vacuum and then shown to coaches. It's being built alongside one, with real students, and a good deal of it exists because a coach said the thing we'd built wasn't quite what they needed.

Where it's up to

The app is live and in use. It's currently invite-only while we work with our first coaches and their students, which is also why pricing is described as founding pricing — the figures are being tested with real coaches rather than guessed at a whiteboard, and whatever price someone joins on is the price they keep.
